An outstanding study of the Covenant with Israel

For too long, we have lost sight of what the Law is really about. Since Martin Luther, people have started to view it as a means to personal salvation, rather that what it really intended. This book takes us back to what the Law really says to us, first by helping us understand the Exodus story, and how a new society was envisioned, in direct contrast to the Pharoah who enslaved the Hebrews. Then the author applies this to our lives and our situation. If we think about it, the Law calls us to a radical reordering of our government and all of our affairs. The ideas, such as total dept relief after 7 years, and concern for the marginalized have profound implications for our structuring of society today. This may be why we have chosen to ignore it for so long. What I really enjoy is how this is applied to the reign of God that Jesus also espoused. An excellent book! But be careful, it may forever change how you view government policy, and even vote!

This COULD be good as one's intro to Brueggemann

Although the first section moves just a little slow for the lay reader (he speaks of pyschological backgrounds in family relationships), the rest of the book is typical profundity as one would expect from Brueggemann.
In fact, this book is probbaly the most quotable Brueggemann to date (I've read about a dozen of his books).
Among the discussions: *The "dialectic" between PRAISE and COMPLAINT in the Christian life; *The concept of "othering" as the risky, demanding, dynamic process of relating to one who is not us; *Approaching God as EROS

A MUST HAVE before getting any cosmetic dental work done!

I got this book when I decided I wanted to improve my smile before my wedding. Prior to this book I was clueless about dental cosmetic procedures, and now that I have read Change Your Smile, I feel like a dental pro. Armed with the book, I went to my local dentist and was able to ask intelligent questions about each possible procedure that would specifically help me in my case. I felt much more comfortable since the book taught me what to ask, what to expect and what price to pay. My favorite aspects of the book were:
- The great photos that show the before and after for each case.
- The straight forwardness of the text, which made the book easy to understand and consumer friendly while still being very detailed.
- The charts at the end of each chapter. These 2-page charts titled `Which solution is best for you?' include the treatment time, maintenance, results, cost, advantages, and disadvantages for each procedure and depending on the specific smile challenge. These charts were concise and for me completly life savers.
An added bonus with Change Your Smile was a chapter towards the end titled `Finishing Touches'. It included several helpful beauty tips on topics such as skin treatments and make-up. I also invested a lot of time in the section about hair that explains which haircuts go best with each specific facial shape. The best part is that it not only explains the haircut, it actually shows good and bad haircuts for each type, this was very helpful.
Overall, I feel it is thanks to Change Your Smile that I got the smile of my dreams for the wedding of my dreams.

I Changed My Smile

I first had the occasion to read an earlier edition of Change Your Smile in 1990. I was in the Waiting Room at the Medical College of Georgia. I was there for my first leap into the world of Student Comestic Denistry.

I began my road of changing my smile that day. Then I: (4)" Cracked down" (6) "Found what was lost" (8) "Found Closure" and (9)"Straightened up and smiled right". Now I: (10) "Don't Gum up the Works" (12) Have the Finishing Touches.

My copy was printed upside down!

I read the first book and while the grammatical errors were distracting; it was a good read and very informative. So, I decided to get the second and third.
The second one arrived just now and WTF??? THE INSIDE PAGES ARE BOUND UPSIDE DOWN!! So, literally I have to turn the friggin thing over and read it from left to right like something in arabic.
I processed a return through Amazon and they contacted me right away to send a replacement. So, no harm, no foul. They certainly should have checked the copies from the printer a bit better before sending, IMHO.

Discover the Secret Space Program; Fact or Fiction?

I read this book in its earlier form, before it was split into two volumes. I enjoyed the story.
The big question for me is: Is it really a true story, as its author insists?
The formula in it for the "space field" or whatever it is is interesting, but it isn't really explained, so I won't be going out building any anti-gravity devices any time soon. But there is actually a lot of evidence from other sources supporting the basic thesis of the book, so it presents a probable scenario even if it is actually fictional.

A shame that the conversion killed the book.

Although the book itself is very good and interesting, the Kindle conversion is an unmitigated disaster. Almost none of the equations and other mathematical expressions can be read, thus negating the book its essence. Unless one is very familiar with contemporary/high level math, it becomes unreadable after the chapter on French math from the XVIII century.

Not only is the story wonderfully written, but the illustrations are beautifully drawn with lots of details. I'm a first grade teacher and have read thousands of books in my long career. This one rates in my top 10 for all time. I'm saddened to hear that it's out of print at this time. Barbara Martinez

The Story of the Easter Bunny

I read this book at Easter time for many years to my Brownie/Girl Scout troup. The girls never got tired of hearing the story, and actually looked forward to it every year, even as they got older. It is a wonderful story about compassion, respect, and overcoming odds to achieve something wonderful. A very fitting story for this time of year...it is full of simple truths about the power of having faith.

Perhaps my favorite book I've ever read to my kids

I found this book by accident. It was one of many books my kids randomly pulled off the shelves at the library one day.
Boy, is this a hidden gem! It's a little longish, has a lot of words per page, so it's not for kids with the shortest attention spans. Once they get to age three or four, though, and can sit through it, you'll want to read it to them again and again until they memorize it.
The story is nice, sweet, and engaging. The message, that being kind is "more important than anything," is *perfect*, and powerfully and dramatically told.
I can't recommend this book enough. There's no reason it shouldn't be a hugely successful, famous book. Get a copy for your own family, and get some more copies to give away as presents!
