About the Author
Will Eisner's career spanned the entire history of comic books, from his formative days in the 1930s through the 1940s, when he revolutionized narrative sequential art with his internationally famed weekly newspaper supplement series THE SPIRIT, to the 1970s, when he created the contemporary graphic novel form. In addition to his award-winning graphic novels, he is also the author of the influential study Comics and Sequential Art. Eisner passed away on January 3, 2005 at the age of 87.

well this is a great jumping on point for you

If you are not already a fan of The Spirit, well this is a great jumping on point for you! If you are already a fan, such as I, this is a fabulous group of stories to just sit back and relax with! Will Eisner was one of the immortal graphic artists to walk the earth, with a different kind of story telling that has really never been matched in our time. Perhaps though, one of the most interesting stories in this collection is not Eisner scripted nor drawn, but is Darwyn Cooks match up of The Spirit with another great crime stopper, Batman. You will not be able to sit this one down, and you will be glad to add it to your collection. Beautiful selection of stories and artwork from both Eisner and some of the great talent that exists amongst us today! You won't be sorry!

A retrospective done right!

This is really well produced volume in celebration of the Spirit by Will Eisner. In an edition that looks great next to the Spirit Archive Editions, DC offers us clear, colorful, easy to read and see reproductions of the strip/comic's original newspaper run, as well as a 1970's story from Kitchen Sink and DC's #1 issue of the Batman/Spirit with Darwyn Cooke doing the rendering. This book is a colorful, fun, celebration of this well-loved creation. Great job DC! Highly recommended.

A wonderful overview of dance

This book truly made a course that I dreaded taking enjoyable. I recommend this book whether you are taking a dance course or if you would just like to improve your knowledge of dance and its components in general. It is written in a way that is easily comprehensible to most readers. I give this book a four star rating because, while certain aspects of dance (such as its elements) are highlighted, this book does not go into strong detail when referring to various styles. As previously stated, however, this book is wonderful for a scholar or dance enthusiast to read in order to increase his/her general knowledge of the art of dance.

The exposition is pretty vague and not descriptive

This book is very expensive and not particularly insightful. A lot of the information is kind of page-filling, with long lists of people's names totally out of context. The exposition is pretty vague and not descriptive. It felt very wishy-washy. I don't think this is college level reading - more like high school or middle school.

Mapping the Journey to Sustainable Success

Several things set this book apart from the thousands of other books on business and organizational success:

1. It is comprehensive, taking into account the entire ecosystem within which all organizations exist. Many approaches focus on the perspective of the organization, this book also includes the perspectives and roles of employees and external stakeholders in creating sustainable success.
2. It is visionary, recognizing business as the most powerful force on the planet with the most potential to be a force for enduring good. This book focuses not just on being the best in the world, but on being the being the best for the world.
3. It is pragmatic, filled with case studies, measurement tools, developmental exercises and alignment processes for practical application. Richard Barrett has created a textbook that can be implemented by any leadership group interested in creating a truly great place to work.

At the heart of this book is a deep understanding of and appreciation for the developmental evolution of people and the organizations they create. People and organizations develop along predictable patterns, starting with basic survival needs and maturing into higher level growth needs. Barrett calls this full-spectrum maturity. As leaders and their organizations master their survival needs they free up energy and begin to focus on higher level needs such as team cohesion and making a difference in the world. Understanding this underlying developmental map is essential to understanding how needs connect to values and beliefs, and how fears create waste and dysfunction in organizations. This book clearly lays out the connection between human development and organizational success and reveals the levers that conscious leaders can utilize to accelerate and strengthen growth.

Chapter two, which lays out the link between exceptional financial performance and values, will be of particular interest to investors, executives and entrepreneurs. In chapter three he goes on to show to create high levels of employee engagement by creating values alignment and mission alignment. In chapter four, he offers a nine step process to navigate whole system change and transformation.

After this insightful set-up, the rest of the book is dedicated to practical application. Part two focuses on mapping organizational values, part three on leadership, and part four on structural alignment.

I could not agree more, and strongly recommend this book to fellow coaches, consultants and business leaders who share this vision and are working in the trenches to bring it into reality.

A Conscious Capitalist Must Read

Richard has been an important teacher in my life since I met him in the late 90's. I knew then as I know now, that values and how you and/or your organization lives consistently with your espoused values are the keys to happiness and fulfillment. While you can guess how consistently you live your values, as a leader it's what your followers tell you that determines your effectiveness. There is no better values measurement system in the world and this book does an excellent job of not only describing the instruments and how they were developed, but the nitty gritty on how to implement them to increase personal and organizational performance.

I am an active member and Chapter chair in the Conscious Capitalism movement that Richard references in Chapter 2. A fabulous cookbook

Anyone who lives on or who has visited the island of St. Martin knows about Yvette's Restaurant, a cute little place on the French side,serving great local Caribbean food.
Now this famous restaurant has published a cookbook of their recipes along with beautiful pictures of the food.

I have bought one of these books for myself, and absolutely love it, and I have bought 2 for gifts also.
This is a great cook book!

Culinary Excellence - Caribbean Style

I just returned from St Martin today toting three of these beautiful cook books with me (cost of checking luggage being what it is these days the maximum I could afford to carry) and want three more books to share with my dearest friends and family. This cook book not only provides a road map to my favorite St Martin dishes but is also an artistic work of art. The vibrant colors and beautiful pictures could easily adorn an art book of the highest quality. I especially appreciate the type set which is quite adequate for the over sixty crowd (even without my glasses). I highly recommend this for all who adore high quality cookbooks (my passion) and/or love caribbean cuisine.

Felix & family make the best food - I cannot WAIT to make all of my favorite recipes from this book. I've had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant several times over the past 20 years or so. I can't tell you how happy I am to have gotten a [signed] copy of this book this past week while having dinner at Yvette's Restaurant in St. Martin. The recipes are all simple, using common ingredients & kitchen tools. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in simple recipes that will make your mouth water & your belly full of wonderful, hearty food.

Information science is a multidisciplinary field that is still emerging, trying to find itself. As a result, its foundational literature has previously been spread all over the place. Now we have a pretty nice textbook that brings it all together, giving newcomers to the field a really nice overview of the present state of the field, including areas where research and discussion are most sorely needed. This is one I'll be keeping and referring to time and again.
