He has worked on Josh McDowell Radio, Today's Father, Jesus Freaks Radio for the Voice of the Martyrs, Project Angel Tree with Chuck Colson, and many others. He’s also a popular speaker on parenting and marriage and the author of dozen-plus books, including the bestselling 52 Things Kids Need from a Dad, 52 Things Wives Need from a Husband, and 52 Things Sons Need from Their Dad; he also created “The Dad Manifesto.” Jay has also served as an AWANA director, a wrestling coach, and the executive director of the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative; he now partners with the National Center for Fathering, whose efforts he fosters and promotes. You're Never Too Old.....

The first Payleitner book I read was "What if God Wrote Your Bucket List" and it motivated me to pick up 7 more of his books. This one and "52 Things That Kids need from a Dad" are my favorites. His home-spun, witty writing style will draw you in and entertain you throughout the book. The author draws from real-life experiences with his family to illustrate his point in each of his 52 short chapters and ends each one with a poignant quote from the Bible or popular culture. I heartily recommend that both you and your spouse read this to fully benefit from the advice. My wife and I are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year and found Chapters 13 (Jab Less) and 21 (Find "Go-To" Couples) to be exceedingly helpful concepts that we never considered before. I enjoy his "52 Series" so much that I will order a few more. All that I've read are short, succinct and funny.

He covers marriage from all perspectives you might expect - dealing with kids, facing tough times, physical intimacy, and doing activities together. However, the book also tackles some topics you might not have thought about, like how to vacation together when you're different, "giving your bedspread a good shake" (you'll have to read the book to know what he means), and the importance of telling your own marriage story. Jay's writing style is also super accessible - easy to read and difficult to put down. The book is broken into 52 short chapters, making it great for a busy couple to read and enjoy together. "52 Ways to Connect as a Couple" is full of real-world, practical advice you can use to invest in your marriage and see tangible improvements right away.

52 Ways to Connect as a Couple by Jay Payleitner is packed full of fun and practical advice for couples. You can read it all at one time or take one reading a week and share with your spouse. The ‘Question to Ask Out Loud’ section was one of my favorites. You can still learn about your spouse even after being married 10 years. This section is great to start conversations. The 52 readings range from fun (To Do Stuff), to serious (To Give Their Bedspread a Good Shake) and to thoughtful (To See the Seasons) and to adventurous (To Put Sex on the Calendar)
I also felt Jay shares thoughts from a male perspective that women may not intuitively know that were helpful.

Great Presentation

The book starts with an interesting history of skyscrapers, then goes into details of 50 skyscrapers from the past 100 years. Each skyscraper has 2-4 pages, including large photographs. I was a little disappointed that the 2IFC tower in Hong Kong was not included, but happy to see Taipei 101. An excellent touch was to add 6 upcoming skyscrapers, like London's Shard of Glass and the amazing CCTV headquarters in Beijing.

Great book with lots of pictures

I was looking for something with lots of pictures. Also something that was up to date & not too technical. This book was perfect. It's the 2008 edition but has images of the buildings in planning at the moment. I would recommend!

"This book is well written and easy enough for the slower student and challenging enough for the advanced student."

"I supplied multiple options from this reviewer; see below about contacting him for permission to quote.RCA does an excellent job illustrating chapter material and procedures.The aspect I like most about RCA is that it never becomes too technical and wordy. Subjects are covered in a "need to know" as opposed to a "nice to know" manner.The figures are very appropriate and up to date. What is really nice is that they are accessible through the Image Library. In book format, the figures compliment the text, not over crowd it. The Procedures, like the Figures, compliment each chapter very well. They are very well illustrated, concisely worded and accurate. My students find the author's writing very easy to read and understand. His writing style is like being spoken to. His ordering of material content by chapter and within each chapter mirrors the actual construction process of a home. As I said before, the author makes a clear effort to include "need to know" information and leave out "nice to know" information. If you were to build a house on your own, his textbook would make a great step-by-step manual. I would guarantee that you would not miss a single step nor would you be taking any unnecessary steps. First and foremost, it is student friendly and it is teacher friendly. It is simply written, super organized, well illustrated and current. I find this book to be an excellent resource to prepare students for an entry-level position in carpentry."

"The table of contents does an excellent job of covering the basics for our program. This is one of the main reasons that we chose this book. Many of the carpentry books I reviewed are much too complicated or in depth where our students need a simple overview. Also, the order of topics is in what I would call "order of construction". This is the most logical order because that is the normal process of construction. From my own perspective and from the feedback that I receive from my students the figures are adequate, clear, and informative. Many of the students in our program learn best from hands-on or visual example so I greatly appreciate the many figures and illustrations included. [The Procedures are] yet another reason why we continue to use this book. I have not seen another textbook that offers this kind of illustration. Many books have an "activity" section at the end of each chapter with a description of a recommended procedure with no or very little illustration. Our students learn more with the Procedures used in this book. I like the author's approach and writing style. He is not too wordy keeping each paragraph fairly short and to the point. Each subtopic is highlighted with a different color to allow students to easily find them in review. Key words are in italics and also easily found. Figures referred to are usually on the same page as the reference. The references to procedures that apply to the subject matter are also in bold print at the end of said paragraphs. This book is far superior to any other carpentry textbook I have reviewed for use in our program."

About the Author
Floyd Vogt is a sixth-generation carpenter and contractor. His family operated a small business devoted to all phases of home construction, and he began working in the family business at age 15. After completing a B.A. in chemistry at the State University of New York College at Oneonta, Mr. Vogt returned to the field as a self-employed remodeler. In 1985 he began teaching in the Carpentry program at the State University of New York, Delhi. He has taught many courses, including light framing, advanced framing, math, energy-efficient construction, finish carpentry, finish masonry, and estimating. Mr. Vogt is currently a professor in the Construction Design-Build Management bachelor's degree program, where his course responsibilities include residential construction, AutoCAD, construction seminar, and physical science applications. He has also served as a carpentry regional coordinator for Skills-USA and as a post-secondary Skills-USA student advisor. Mr. Vogt is also the co-author or CARPENTRY, 6E and he is a member of a local town planning board.
